This $45 Million Mansion Features a Zaha Hadid–Designed Bathroom

If you want a Zaha Hadid–designed bathroom in your house, you’ve got a few options. You could buy a condo or rent an apartment in one of her residential building projects, or you could potentially wait until a single-family residence that the starchitect designed goes on sale. Or you could put in an offer for Craig Robins and Jackie Soffer’s Miami beachfront mansion, which just hit the market for $45 million, per The Wall Street Journal. The 9,000-square-foot Spanish-style home graced the pages of AD in 2017 and features a unique primary bathroom designed by the late architect, who was Robins’s longtime friend and collaborator. Located on Florida’s Sunset Island, an enclave of four exclusive artificial islands in South Florida, the home features seven bedrooms, eight bathrooms, a gym, a library, a formal dining room, a chef’s kitchen, a detached guesthouse, and, of course, the Zaha Hadid–designed bathroom.

The stark white bathroom is designed in classic Zaha Hadid form.

“I once walked in on Martha Stewart doing an impromptu shoot with photographer Todd Eberle in the bathroom,” Robins told AD in 2017. “To be fair to Martha, I think she asked for permission at some point in the night, and as far as party antics go, it’s less naughty than what a lot of people get up to in Miami bathrooms.” With its minimalist white walls and sleek curves, it’s not surprising the space would make a perfect Instagram backdrop.

The couple opted for white walls throughout much of the home to display their impressive art collection.

According to The Wall Street Journal, Robins bought the home in 1997 for $1.325 million and later added about 2,500 square feet during a 2016 renovation following his 2015 marriage to Soffer. Around this time Soffer had been showing Hadid potential bathtubs the couple was considering for their primary bath. Unmoved by their choices, Hadid called called the pair back the next day, saying she didn’t approve of any of the options and offering to design the space herself. “It was the nicest thing that probably any friend has ever done for me,” Robins told the newspaper. In classic Hadid fashion, the room is defined by stark white curved lines, which seamlessly blend the tub and shower together.

Now empty nesters, the couple has decided to downsize and sell the expansive property, which dates back to the 1940s. The listing is being held exclusively by Jill Hertzberg and Jill Eber of the Jills Zeder Group.
